About Veuve Clicquot Vintage 2012 Rosé Champagne
Harvest & Cuvée Background
The Vintage Rosé 2012 marks the 66th declared vintage since the house’s first in 1810.
Grapes were sourced exclusively from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards. The blend is structured around Pinot Noir (51%), with Chardonnay (34%) and Meunier (15%) rounding it out.
Unique aspects of this cuvée include:
-
13% of the blend is red still wine (Pinot Noir from Bouzy) — a technique to deepen colour and structure.
-
11% of the blend comprised of wines aged in large oak foudres, imparting extra aromatic intensity (woody, toasty, vanilla) and depth.
Tasting Profile
-
Appearance: Deep rose with coppery reflections.
-
Nose: Red fruits (wild strawberry, Morello cherry), saffron, pastry-notes, almond.
-
Palate: Voluminous and structured—starting with expressive red fruits, moving into velvety tannins, spice and mineral backbone; surprising for a rosé. Drink window cited as ~2021-2040.
-
Dosage: 8 g/L Brut.
Food Pairing & Serving
Serve chilled at ~10-12 °C. This vintage pairs beautifully with rich seafood (e.g., lobster, langoustine), roasted duck, or fine charcuterie.
Ageing & Collectibility
Given its structure, quality of fruit, and craft in the vintage, this is a Champagne with significant ageing potential (up to 25 years or more).
