This H. Upmann Half Corona Cigar is creamy with hints of coffee. A small attractive Havana with a good even draw; and surprisingly complex flavours for such a small cigar.
An excellent short-break cigar.

A new Vitola was introduced to the H.Upmann brand in November 2011.

Herman Upmann was a banker from Germany who so loved Cuban cigars that he moved to Havana in 1844 and set up as both a banker and cigar maker. His bank closed in the early 1920s but his cigars live on as a fine example of an elegant light to medium flavoured Habano.

• The Half Corona revives the concept of the old “Half‐a‐Corona,” which in its day was very popular.

Flavor Profile & Smoking Experience

• Strength: Light to medium strength. It is not a heavy or very strong cigar. Suitable for many cigar lovers who prefer complexity without too much intensity.

• Time Needed: Because it’s fairly short, smoking time is correspondingly brief: roughly 20‑30 minutes, depending on pace.

• Tasting Notes / Aromas:

  • Cream, cedar, nuts are often mentioned.

  • Some herbal/woodsy tones, light sweetness, perhaps mild spice or leather in more developed puffs.

  • Aroma of precious wood and leather pre‑light. Peppery mushrooms in some reports (particularly in the stronger smoke).

• Burn & Draw: Good draw generally reported; burn is even when the cigar is well constructed and properly stored. Small size means less margin for error (i.e. tight draw or uneven wrapper more noticeable).

Pros & Unique Features

• Compact & quick smoke: Ideal when you want a real Cuban cigar but don’t have hours to burn.

• Elegance despite size: The Half Corona displays many of the characteristics of larger Upmann cigars — creamy, balanced, refined flavours.

• Good for both novices and aficionados: approachable strength but complexity and quality still evident.

• Historic / collector interest: Because this is a newer vitola in an old line, it’s interesting from a brand development perspective. Also, the packaging (box of 25) is attractive for collection or aging.
