Description
About Hibiki Japanese Harmony 2021 Limited Edition Whisky
What It Is
-
This is a limited edition release of Hibiki Japanese Harmony, launched in 2021 by Suntory. It carries the name Ryusui‑Hyakka, which translates roughly as “One‑Hundred Flowers and Flowing Water”.
-
The design of the bottle is special: it features blossoms of the 24 seasons (from the traditional Japanese calendar) interlaced with flowing water motifs. The standard Hibiki bottle has 24 facets, representing the 24 seasons; this edition adds additional decoration / art to celebrate harmony with nature and the passage of time.
-
ABV: 43% (standard for Hibiki Harmony).
-
Size: 700 mL / 75 cl depending on region. Commonly 700 mL.
-
Blend components: It uses the typical Yamazaki & Hakushu malt whiskies + Chita grain whiskies (i.e. the usual mix Hibiki uses) matured in multiple cask types (American oak, sherry casks, Mizunara oak among them).
Tasting Profile
What people report in terms of aroma, palate/flavour, and finish:
| Aspect | Notes / Impressions |
|---|---|
| Nose | Rose, lychee, a hint of rosemary; mature woodiness; sandalwood. |
| Palate / Taste | Sweet and honeyed up front; candied orange peel; white chocolate. The texture is smooth. |
| Finish | Subtle & tender; a longer delicate finish; lingering oak, with note of Mizunara (Japanese oak) in the aftertaste. |
| Colour | Amber (a warm golden‑amber hue) — fitting with its age / blend / cask finishes. |
What Makes It Special / Strengths
-
Presentation & Collectibility: The limited edition bottle design is elegant and commemorative. For collectors or for gifting, it has extra appeal beyond the usual Hibiki Harmony.
-
Balanced Blend: The whisky retains the delicate, floral, fruity style Hibiki is known for, but with refinement and high craftsmanship in blending the malt + grain + cask influences. Not aggressively strong, but layers of flavour.
-
Smooth & Accessible: At 43%, it’s approachable; you get subtleties (flowers, fruit, oak) rather than harshness. Good for those who prefer something refined over something loud.
-
Cultural & Artistic Value: The design, naming, and concept tie into Japanese tradition (24 seasons, nature, flowing water, flowers). For many buyers, that narrative adds value.
