About Kaiyo Mizunara Oak Aged Cask Strength Whisky

A bold expression of Japanese oak artistry
From Kaiyō (a name meaning “ocean”), this whisky is crafted with a distinctive maturation journey. It is a blended malt (100% malted barley) matured in Mizunara-oak casks handcrafted by Kyoto’s Ariake cooperage. 
After land maturation, the barrels undertake a unique final phase at sea — departing from Osaka and spending up to three months in ocean transit — adding movement, temperature variation and maritime influence to the maturation.
