Description
El Tequileño Reposado Rare Tequila
El Tequileño Reposado Rare Tequila is a great way to expand your home bar. Key Details & What Makes It Special
-
100% Blue Weber Agave from the Highlands (Los Altos) of Jalisco, Mexico.
-
Water source: mineral‑rich water from El Volcán de Tequila.
-
Fermentation: uses the distillery’s natural yeast, which is influenced by old mango trees (150‑year‑old mango trees).
-
Distillation: done in copper stills.
Aging, Classification & Barrel Info
-
It is aged for 6 years (6 years + ~4 months in some sources).
-
Barrel: a pipón, a very large American oak barrel/pipón of about 25,000 liters capacity (or similarly very large, e.g. ~23,000 L in some summaries).
-
Because of the size of the barrel, under Mexican law, it cannot be legally labelled as Añejo or Extra Añejo, even though its age is more typical of those categories. Even though aged 6 years, it is classified as Reposado Rare.
Tasting Profile & Notes
From various tasting notes:
-
Aroma (nose): Vanilla, honey, cooked agave, a subtle touch of black pepper. Also notes of caramel, baked apple, cedar, jalapeño in some impressions.
-
Taste (palate): Rich and complex — sweet agave, oak, marzipan, light spiciness, candied ginger, piloncillo, some citrus (Meyer lemon) in parts.
-
Finish: Long, smooth, with oak and vanilla lingering; somewhat dessert‑like; nicely balanced.
“Reposado Rare” — Why the Name & Classification
-
It’s unique because it ages much longer than typical reposado (which is usually a few months up to a year), but due to the very large barrel size, it cannot legally be called Añejo (or Extra Añejo) under the regulatory definitions which limit the barrel size for those categories (≤ 600 L). So they created “Reposado Rare” to reflect its rarity, exceptional aging, but technically still “reposado” because of those legal limits.
